Glasgow Conservative Group Leader Thomas Kerr said: “Last week’s SNP-Green budget delivered appalling news to Glaswegians. Councils are continuing to bear the brunt of savage cuts year after year being passed down to councils by the SNP-Green government, yet Glasgow’s council administration have their priorities skewed. From what was contained within their latest Budget it looks as though SNP-Green councillors remain hellbent on overseeing a destruction of Glasgow City Centre. That can be the only explanation as to the only answer to their financial incompetence seems to be asking Glaswegians – and visitors – to the city – to pick up the bill. Plans to hit those who drive to work with a carpark tax, or introducing a congestion charge and increasing parking charges are the latest hammer blow for Glasgow. Add in charging visitors a tourist tax and this council have confirmed they are completely out-of-touch as to how to grow our city’s economy and make us an attractive place to invest in. If they won’t listen to me, they should listen to businesses who are voicing similar concerns. However, if their past record is anything to go by, those concerns will fall on deaf ears, after they pressed ahead with their shambolic low emission zone scheme.
Glaswegians deserve far better than being asked to pay more and get less under this SNP-Green administration."
