Scottish Conservative shadow health secretary Dr Sandesh Gulhane MSP said: “We know that strokes are one of Scotland’s biggest killers – yet far too many patients are being denied the urgent care required in their time of need.
“Thrombectomy treatment can save lives when delivered quickly, but under the SNP only a fraction of patients are getting it – and the situation is getting worse, despite the best efforts of dedicated frontline staff.
“The abysmal failure of Humza Yousaf’s Covid recovery plan has left stroke care in a worse state than before the pandemic.
“John Swinney and Neil Gray love to boast about their record, but the truth is we are going backwards because of their sheer incompetence.
“Enough is enough. SNP ministers need to show some common-sense and back our plans to cut bureaucracy, reduce the number of middle managers and ensure resources get to frontline services like stroke care.”
