Glasgow City Council’s proposed parking charges for Dennistoun would hit local residents, workers and small businesses hard ,and I am standing with the community to oppose them.
Under these plans, residents could be forced to pay up to £220 a year just to park near their own homes, while workers and small business employees could face costs of up to £1,000 a year. At a time when families are already struggling with the cost of living, this is simply unfair.
Dennistoun is a vibrant, mixed community. People rely on their cars for work, caring responsibilities, school runs and shift patterns where public transport is not a realistic option. These proposals risk:
- Penalising low- and middle-income households
- Hurting local cafés, shops and services
- Making it harder for carers, tradespeople and visitors to support residents
- Displacing parking problems into neighbouring streets rather than solving them
Residents were given very limited notice over the Christmas period, and many feel their concerns have not been properly listened to. That is not meaningful consultation.
I am meeting with local businesses and residents, raising concerns directly with the Council, and urging them to pause these plans and go back to the drawing board. Any parking policy must be proportionate, evidence-based, and shaped with the community, not imposed on it.
📣 Have your say
The consultation closes on 23 January. If these proposals would affect you, I want to hear from you.
Together, we can make sure Dennistoun’s voices are heard.
