The Clyde Tunnel is a vital artery connecting the southside and west end of Glasgow.
The idea of introducing a charge to use the tunnel has been floated by SNP and Labour politicians.
Surprisingly, tunnel maintenance is the responsibility of the city council, not the Scottish Government. However, after years of SNP power in Edinburgh and Glasgow, why have our city representatives not persuaded the Scottish Government to take responsibility for the up-keep of this vital piece of infrastructure? So much for "Stronger for Scotland!"
Thousands use the tunnel every day. It links people and communities.
In addition, it provides access to our main hospital, the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. NHS staff and visitors alike use the tunnel to access this important facility.
To charge people to use this tunnel would be economically reckless and morally indefensible. It would be a charge for simply participating in daily life.
We need a resolution that maintains the tunnel, but does not use Glaswegian motorists as a cash cow.
Glasgow Conservatives do not believe that tolls should be introduced on the Clyde Tunnel. If you agree, then please join our campaign below.
